The pan-African theme that characterises the décor of the Nairobi Serena
Hotel was completed at the beginning of the year with the opening of the Aksum
Bar in the hotel's foyer.
The new Aksum Bar has been renovated and enlarged and decorated in a rich Ethiopian
style.
Following the pan-African theme of the other public areas at the Nairobi Serena
Hotel the Aksum Bar fills a gap in the map!
With the Café Mahgreb following a Moroccan theme; the Turkish-style
Maisha Health Club; the West African décor of the entrance lobby; the
Zanzibari style of the Presidential suite and the South African décor
of the corridors and bedrooms, the Ethiopian design of the Aksum Bar completes
the pan-African theme of the hotel.
Named after the ancient town in far north Ethiopia, the Aksum Bar is decorated
in colours and styles typical of Ethiopia, with a large wall painting depicting
the Kings and Queens of this ancient civilisation.
Beautiful umbrellas made from ornately designed fabrics hang from the ceiling,
while traditional Ethiopian baskets reminiscent of the bazaars adorn the walls,
creating a comfortable and exotic ambience in the bar.
Like the ancient town of Aksum, which was situated on one of the main northern
trade routes, the Aksum Bar is strategically located in the hotel.
Approaching from the 'West African' lobby, guests visiting the Aksum Bar instantly
capture the pan-African style of the Nairobi Serena Hotel, and relaxing in the
congenial atmosphere of the Aksum Bar guests can order tea and coffee, alcoholic
drinks including a selection of exotic cocktails and light bar snacks.
Since its opening earlier this year the Aksum Bar has already proved immensely
popular among hotel guests and Nairobi residents alike and promises to be as
exotic and lively a trading post as its legendary namesake.
