A traditional country hotel with strong historical roots is the Outspan, established in 1927, where Lord Baden Powell, founder of the Scouting movement, spent the last three years of his life. Located 160km from Nyeri, the Outspan offers comfortable accommodation in recently decorated twin rooms, garden suites and cottages in a 45-acre setting with beautiful gardens.
There are also two purpose-built conference rooms for creative meetings and training sessions. The hotel's chefs use fresh local produce and traditional recipes to create wonderful dishes. Leisure amenities include tennis, squash, swimming, billiards, badminton and, next to the hotel, a nine hole golf course.
Other activities include daily displays of Kikuyu traditional dances, nature walks along the Chania River, escorted bird walks excursions to tea and coffee farms and morning and afternoon game drives in the Aberdares Salient in four wheel drive vehicles.
Two purpose built conference rooms each with 70 delegate capacity make an ideal venue for an out of town meeting. There is a business centre with PC's, fax, internet access, and photocopier means your never out of touch with the office.
